The Daredevil Premium Format released by Sideshow in 2018 has been mainly designed by Daniel Bel, a talented artist who realized most of the recent statues of the famous American Company. The regular version (recently named "Collector Edition") has a circulation of 1500 pieces, while the edition size of the exclusive was 750 worlwide and offers an alternative, interchangeable head. The statue weighs less than 7 kg and has a relatively small size for a 1:4 scale (it is about 41 cm high), due to the specific pose of the character. The "Man without Fear", in fact, is slightly crouched on top of a broken window, presumably belonging to a Hell’s Kitchen ruined building in a typical gothic style, with the torso forward and the weight of the body on the right leg. The figure is athletic and powerful, with well-defined muscles everywhere (especially on pectorals, back and legs) and a pose which emphasizes the innate elegance of the blind hero. The suit is characterized by a modern and original design, rather far from the classic features of Comics. The dominant color, in fact, is red, but the costume is characterized by numerous black parts on the sides of the bust, the inner part of the thighs, the arms and under the neck. Two rigid pads protect both knees and shins, while the different patches on suit are pointed out by large and thick lines, especially on the back. The figure is enriched with an effective use of textures and a great atention paid on any detail: note, for instance, the quite complex design of the gloves, with tight bands at the wrists and semi-rigid reinforcements on the knuckles, as well as of the boots, characterized by long laces and thick rubber soles. The coloring is awesome, with a perfect red tone and delicate shades to highlight every muscle contour. The figure also includes a fabric elastic wire that can be used to connect the billy clubs in several different configurations (on and around hero's arms), although it can be displayed without the wire as an additional option. The base is sculpted to perfection: it depicts an old masonry arc encircling a broken window and is rich of many awesome details, like the ruined edges on top, the little columns embellising the lower part, some decorations carved in relief and the realistic wooden parts of the window. The head of the hero is simply beautiful, with two eyes colored with a metallic red tone and perfect nuances on the uncovered part of the face; some intriguing black patches characterize the modern design of the mask, as well as the rigid and well-proportioned little horns of the "devil". The alternative head of the exclusive version is even more captivating: it exhibits a more classic, total-red look and an expression much more aggressive, pointed out by gritted teeth and the thick shape of the mask around the frowning eyes. The charm and aesthetics of this Premium Format is truly remarkable: thanks to the excellent sculpt, the perfect coloring and the very appropriate background offered by the base, Sideshow succeeded (in my humble opinion and in spite of the modern design of the suit) to give a very "fitting" representation of this amazing superhero. Probably, my favorite 1:4 scale statue of Daredevil!
